To follow up on the initial feasibility study and concept design performed in 2015, the City of Thornton hired BRS to revisit the project with fresh eyes and input from the community. BRS developed site and concept alternatives based on new input from project stakeholders and the community. Initially, the center was going to connect with the Veteran's Memorial Aquatic Center to the west. The preferred option was to relocate the facility to another portion of the site to accommodate access to the building and make best use of the site.
Located on the east edge of the Trail Winds Park and open space, the facility is a new gateway to the park and includes programming for all ages of the community.
Community: Theater, lounge/function space, multipurpose rooms, community classrooms, party rooms, teaching kitchen, Active Adult area and outdoor patio space.
Kids: Indoor play, preschool, child watch and tot lot.
Recreation: Exercise rooms, gymnasium, climbing wall, indoor running track and access to park/regional trail systems.
Aquatics: Lap pool, lazy river, leisure pool and water slides. A first for BRS, underground tunnels for access to pipes around the pools.
