The building design as a whole was carefully considered in the context of its site as a connector between the Central and North Campuses, as well as between the city, the campus and the mountains.
The best solution was to create an addition that wrapped the old recreation center. The exterior was designed to match the architecture of the old center.

The wellness waiting room is cozy and welcoming.
Subsequent to the Recreation Center Expansion Concept Design Phase, the University decided to expand the Student Health and Counseling Centers and co-locate these programs with the Recreation Center. BRS and HGA were selected a second time by the University to provide full-service design and construction services for a combined Student Recreation and Wellness Center. New and renovated spaces in the recreation program include greatly expanded free-weight and cardiovascular equipment areas, additional fitness studios, a double court gymnasium with spectator seating, additional locker rooms and expanded space for an outdoor adventure program. The Wellness program includes a new laboratory, therapy and exam rooms, sick and well reception areas with a main entry as well as a private entry with emergency ambulance access, provider offices, and a teaching kitchen.
Through a series of workshops and focus group meetings with students, faculty and staff, BRS and HGA developed a prioritized expansion program to meet the University’s budget.
