A New Chapter for a Familiar Site

What was once a driving range is now a vibrant community hub for Gig Harbor. PenMet Parks transformed the site into a place where recreation, wellness, and connection find a natural rhythm. The recreation center builds on the property’s assets—repurposing land once dedicated to golf into a multigenerational destination that serves the entire community.

A Flexible Home for Recreation

Inside the center, programs for every age and ability come together under one roof. Multi-use courts, an indoor turf field, a walking track, and fitness areas create opportunities for year-round activity. Gathering spaces and support amenities extend beyond sports, making the facility a place where families, neighbors, and friends can meet, play, and grow together. Site improvements also expand the Cushman Trail, connecting the center to Gig Harbor’s beloved outdoor recreation network.

Designed for Gig Harbor

Every detail reflects the identity of this waterfront community. Vertical design inspiration comes from the Narrows Bridge, dock pilings, powerlines, and sail masts, tying the facility to its setting on Puget Sound. Many mature pines were preserved to maintain the connection to nature. Warm interior colors counter the gray Pacific Northwest skies, creating an energized, welcoming environment year-round.

Celebrating Heritage Through Design

Graphics and materials bring Gig Harbor’s history and culture inside. Net patterns—basketball, soccer, fishing—appear throughout the building in homage to the community’s historic netsheds. A whimsical salmon graphic and even a donated commercial fishing net from the Harbor History Museum, reinforce this playful yet meaningful theme. Custom signage echoes the PenMet Parks brand, while social gathering points like the central stair with its wooden rail double as places to meet and linger.
