The Hyland Hills Sports Center project is a prime example of the adaptive reuse of an existing facility. Originally constructed in the 1970s, the existing building has served the community beginning as an ice arena and most currently was an indoor soccer center prior to this project.

The new facility expands on the already robust gymnastics program offered by Hyland Hills by converting the primary sports space of the existing building into a 20,000 SF dedicated gymnastics center with spectator seating. Accompanying this program in the existing building will be a new dance studio, multi-use rooms, concessions, lobby, and support spaces. The project also includes a nearly 17,000 SF addition with a new two court multi-sport gymnasium, small fitness center, and gathering space making this facility a true community recreation center.
Improvements with this project include completely updating the exterior envelope, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, and internal organization of the existing building to meet current standards. Additionally, a large photovoltaic solar panel array was designed as part of the new gymnasium roof with optimum exposure as a commitment to sustainability from the Hyland Hills Park & Recreation District.
It has been exciting for BRS to be a part of a project that has touched so many members of the community over the last 50 years and to create a new asset that will continue to enhance the lives of future generations.
