Design That Honors Place and Purpose

The design draws inspiration from the Art Deco character of Porter Avenue, where simplified forms, horizontal lines, and geometric ornamentation reflect the district’s historic identity. The west edge of campus features lower, linear structures, while the east side transitions to a quieter residential scale along Findlay Avenue.

Inside, the architectural expression mirrors the clarity, simplicity, and practicality of Art Deco. Clean forms, intuitive circulation, and daylight-filled corridors make it easy for users to navigate the building with confidence.

Part of a Larger Vision for Health & Connection

The Norman Adult Wellness & Education Center creates a holistic environment for healthy aging by integrating fitness, learning, and social engagement in one accessible destination. A warm-water pool, group fitness studio, gymnasium, and cardio and weight areas support movement for every ability, complemented by locker rooms and storage that keep daily operations fluid and safe. Flexible classrooms host everything from lectures and banquets to small-group programs, while dedicated craft rooms encourage creativity through ceramics, art, and hands-on workshops—helping older adults stay active, connected, and mentally engaged.

Gathering spaces throughout the building invite people to meet, linger, and build relationships, anchored by a central administration desk that reinforces a strong staff–community connection. As part of the Porter Health Village, the center works seamlessly alongside healthcare, behavioral health, and outdoor recreation amenities, creating a unified ecosystem that supports physical, mental, and social well-being for the Norman community.
