Community input highlighted landmarks and an agricultural history that became design inspiration. Inspiration for the curved shapes of the roof and interior elements come from the Flint Hills of Kansas. Inspiration for the canopy over the front desk came from windmills.
The site for the Olathe Community Center was planned at Stagecoach Park, bordered by Kansas City Road and Ridgeview Road. The site development included an “outdoor living room,” amphitheater and great lawn. The Olathe City Council expressed interest in a modern building that ties into the existing fabric of the Olathe community, and the BRS team responded with an exterior design composed of a combination of wood and native Kansas stone.
The community center includes a triple-court gymnasium, elevated walk/jog track, indoor aquatics center, fitness center, aerobics dance studio, three group exercise studios, lockers, family changing rooms, community rooms, caterer’s kitchen, party rooms, child watch area and indoor playground.
“The team of SFS and BRS bring innovative collaboration, specialized expertise and a strong desire to understand and deliver the clients vision. Outstanding project management skills and follow up can be expected when working with this team.”
– Kevin Corbett, Retired Director of Parks & Recreation
