Civic Campus

Built upon a memorial parkway, the project was conceptualized as a 'new boulevard' approach, creating a modern, engaging aesthetic while keeping the small-town feel that the committee so strongly expressed as important.

Fast Pace - Recreation

At the Recreation Center on the east side of the building you will experience an energized pace with views of joggers on the track through the two-story lobby. The gradient brick pattern on the exterior and interior creates texture and movement.

BRS started exploring a recreation project in 2003 with the City of Northglenn, CO. In 2007 we were again asked by the City to help create a replacement facility design that would be located at the current site. It went to the voters for approval, but was defeated. In 2017 we were a part of MIG’s team to create a new vision for the entire Civic Center site. With MIG in the lead we developed a master plan which lead us to this amazing facility that combines recreation, senior center, a theatre, festival lawn and a veterans memorial.

Slow Pace - Cultural

At the entrance to Parson's Theatre on the south end of the building, you will notice a shift to a slower pace. This entrance is also used by active older adults for the Senior Center. A sculpture called "Illumination" by Mark Aeling of MGA Sculpture Studio welcomes visitors with a burst of light and color. The 335-seat theatre designed by Semple Brown, will hold plays, musicals, concerts and more from Northglenn Arts.

Community Engagement

Our process began with a feasibility study that included a very dedicated group of Northglenn citizens we called the Design Advisory Group. This group of folks volunteered to participate in a series of workshops to help us make critical decisions in the early stages of design. We believe that much of their work is directly visible in the final design. This has been a labor of love for BRS 18 years in the making!

Northglenn won a Columbine Award in the design category for New Facility from CPRA in 2022.

Northglenn is a participant in Rec Camp and the Benchmark Network.
