The town of Gypsum, located on the western end of Eagle County in ski country, wanted to provide a multigenerational facility to serve the needs of the town and surrounding communities. Through a feasibility study, Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture and GreenPlay, LLC were able to help define these needs. The town’s dream came true through a successful bond election in November 2004.

The new recreation center joins a civic campus that includes the Town Hall, amphitheater, central park and library. The design of the library, completed in 2011, was influenced by the style of the rec center. Visualized as an extension of the town’s rich agricultural and ranching history, the recreation center and library design integrate into a park-like setting and share parking and site infrastructure with other campus buildings.
