Feasibility Study + Design
History and innovation meet in this award-winning dynamic center. Wheat Ridge citizens had dreamed of having their own recreation center for 15 years, and they turned out by the hundreds at public meetings to declare their support and work together to make that dream a reality. A century-old preserved barn welcomes guests to the site—a reminder of the community’s agricultural heritage. Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture incorporated this well-known landmark’s timeless style into the design of the 69,000-s.f. center.
The center includes leisure aquatics, a competition lap pool, climbing wall, gym, fitness and weight training, aerobics studio, jog/walk track, babysitting room, multipurpose room with catering kitchen, party area and classroom.
Residents passed a 1997 sales tax initiative and doors opened in February 2000. The recreation center has become a popular place for wedding receptions, seminars, banquets and business functions.
