Olathe Community Center

Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture, in association with SFS Architecture of Kansas City, Missouri won a national design competition for the Olathe Community Center planned for Olathe, Kansas. BRS is serving as the architect-of-record and design architect, while SFS is fulfilling the role of associate architect. The current construction budget for the 72,000-s.f. project stands at $23.6 million.

The site for the Olathe Community Center is planned at Stagecoach Park, bordered by Kansas City Road and Ridgeview Road. The site development will include an “outdoor living room,” amphitheater and great lawn. The Olathe City Council has expressed interest in a modern building that ties into the existing fabric of the Olathe community, and the BRS team responded with an exterior design composed of a combination of wood and native Kansas stone. The community center will include a triple-court gymnasium, elevated walk/jog track, indoor aquatics center, fitness center, aerobics dance studio, three group exercise studios, lockers, family changing rooms, community rooms, caterer’s kitchen, party rooms, child watch area and indoor playground. Construction documents began in June 2012 and groundbreaking is anticipated to occur in the fall of 2012.
