Gunnison Public Library & Crested Butte Children’s Library

Feasibility Study

Gunnison County Libraries formed a new district in 2007 and set out to enhance facilities throughout the district, including the main library in Gunnison and branch library in Crested Butte. BRS was selected to undertake a planning, design and budget study leading to an election planned for fall 2011. Multiple stakeholder sessions and public workshops have been held, and concepts were developed for a new 20,000-s.f. library in Gunnison and a new children's library in Crested Butte.

The new Gunnison facility will feature sustainable design and architectural character unique to the Gunnison Valley, including passive cooling and heating, indigenous ranching-era materials, and generous program space for community activities.
