Durango Recreation Center

A home for recreation and community programs.

Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture worked with the City of Durango and La Plata County to master plan the La Plata County Fairground complex. The process was designed to balance the uses of the recreation center and county fairgrounds, which included ballfields, a river trail, outdoor sprayground and amphitheater. The Durango Recreation Center houses both recreation and community programs. The 74,000-s.f. facility includes a lap and leisure pool, gym, track, climbing wall, weight room, aerobics area and fitness room. The community wing has a catering kitchen, teen game area and convenient babysitting drop-in area. The multipurpose room can be divided into several smaller rooms. The center draws people from throughout the southwestern part of the state.
