Coon Rapids Community Recreation Center

Feasibility Study

The overarching mission of the Coon Rapids Community Recreation Center is to enhance the quality of life for citizens by providing a welcoming, multifunctional and intergenerational gathering place that offers something for everyone. The team of Perkins+Will, Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture and Bonestroo Engineering was asked to develop a feasibility study and conceptual design for a new civic park and recreation complex to include a new ice center, recreation center and wellness center all under one roof.

The existing ice center, which is in very poor condition, is intended to be demolished and the land sold to the adjacent Anoka-Ramsey Community College for use as a parking garage. The proceeds from the sale will be used to fund the first phase of construction: the new ice center. When the entire complex is completed, it will provide athletic activities currently lacking within the city and become an anchor for redevelopment while strengthening community connections with existing transportation routes and other community amenities.
