The new 60,000 square foot recreation center will be located right in the heart of our hometown on the corner of Colfax Avenue and Josephine Street. Several key people who were instrumental in bringing this project to life, including Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Councilman Albus Brooks (Dist. 9), and former Councilwoman Jeanne Robb, were on hand for the ceremony.
“Only steps from East High School and City Park, the Central Denver Recreation Center will become a prominent amenity within one of the most densely populated areas of our city,” Mayor Hancock said. “This center will be a state-of-the art facility for the many residents in the area, as well as a catalyst along the Colfax corridor to promote a thriving cultural and residential area.”
The LEED Gold certified facility will include two swimming pools; an 8-lane lap pool and leisure pool, gymnasium with a full-size basketball court and cardio-weight room, group exercise rooms, multi-purpose room, child watch area, outdoor amenities, and community gathering spaces. Planned amenities on the site include a dog playground, table tennis, slackline area, large picnic tables, onsite bike parking, a B-Cycle station, climbing boulder and 130 parking spaces.
We can’t wait to see this exciting project, which will be the first urban recreation center in the state of Colorado, begin to take shape!
